FORTY AHAADITH PERTAINING TO RAMADHAAN
Compiled by Moulana Mohammed ibn Ishaaq Gaibee

FOREWORD BY SHAYKHUL HADITH MOULANA FADHLUR RAHMAAN SAHEB

Moulana Mohamed Gaibee has compiled a book on the virtue of Ramadhaan and fasting. The author has brought Arabic text with translation in English. I have seen the Arabic text, in which he has quoted with reference from books of Ahaadith.

The most important source for Muslims after the Qur'aan is the Ahaadith of the Holy Prophet ( Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam ). it creates a spirit of Sahabiyyat (of the Sahaabah) within a Muslim when he has close contact with the Ahaadith of the Holy Prophet ( Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam ) and is involved in it. Shah Abdul-Aziz Muhaddith Dehlawee (RA) has mentioned this in his book Ujala-e-Naafiah.

He also mentions that Hadhrat Muhammad Baaqir (RA) said, 'It is from the understanding of a man's religion that he gets deep understanding and insight in Ahaadith.

Shah Abdul-Aziz Muhaddith Dehlawi (RA) has also mentioned the following couplets:

Which means that the Muhadditheen are the people of Rasulu ( Alayhis salaam ), although they did not get the company of Rasool ( Alayhis salaam ) but their company is with the sacred breath and noble words of Rasulullah ( Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam ).

The knowledge of Ahaadith has superiority over all the other forms of knowledge, from this aspect that Qur'aan cannot be understood without it nor can one know the laws of Shari'ah and Tariqat. (see pages32-33 – Ujala-e-Nafiah Urdu)

The following was the guidelines and parting advice of Hadhrat Gangohi (RA): It is of utmost importance for a principle that he should make sure that students study Hadith and Fiqh with complete understanding and contemplation because this is the main objective for the establishment of Madaaris and only this!

Hadhrat Gangohi (RA) further states, 'It is requested from the teachers that they should encourage the students to study with the understanding of the lectures of Deeniyat and of the funoon of Deeniyat especially of Hadeeth Shareef. I have hope in the mercy of Allah Ta'ala. (Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi RA – Takhassus Hadeeth Shareef compiled by Moulana Muhammad Shahid Saharanpuri pg.7)

Shah Abdul-Aziz Muhaddith Dehlawi (RA) has drawnattention towards two aspects in order to benefit from Hadeeth Shareef.

a) To make proper research and investigation of Rijaal (narrators) of Ahaadith to know that a certain Hadith is reliable or not. (This is besides the Ahaadith of Bukhari and Muslim)

b) To ascertain the correct meaning of the text of a Hadith as to what is the objective of the Hadith.

We must always take this into consideration. A lot of unreliable sayings have become famous in the Ummah in the name of Ahaadith due to neglecting the first aspect. Whereas Nabi ( Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam ) when he ordered this, 'Convey from me even though it may be a single Aayah (verse)'.

Nabi ( Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam ) also warned us: The one who fabricates a lie against me, should make his abode in Jahannam.

These two sentences have been narrated in the same Hadeeth. Weak Ahaadith can be mentioned in Fadhaail (virtues) but one should refrain from very weak and fabricated ones.

Deviation will spread if one is unmindful of the second aspect. The example of that are the deviated sects. It has been emphasized for the same reason that the commentaries of Ulama-e-Muhaqqiqeen and Raasikheen (scholars who got deep understanding and are researchers) should always be referred to and one should not comment from his own self.

We make Du'aa that Allah Ta'ala grant us Ikhlaas (sincerity) and instill in our hearts the greatness and importance of Ahaadith. We must read Ahaadith with this feeling as though we directly listening to it from Nabi ( Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam ) and make this part of our lives and make an effort to convey it to others.

May Allah Ta'ala accept this book, give more Tawfeeq to the compiler and give benefit to the Ummah from this, Aameen
